Every day we advocate for something. Advocacy is simply an action that we do to change someone else's viewpoints, attitudes, or behaviors to reach an outcome we desire.
In the early childhood field the word advocacy typically means that we are representing Missouri's children. We know that children can't speak for themselves and part of our job is to do that for them. Every day in our jobs and lives we represent children. Maybe it is our own, relatives, or those we care for daily in homes and centers.
Many are often hesitant to step outside of their everyday jobs and lives to represent Missouri's children. Often people don't believe their voice matters or that their one voice will not change someone's viewpoints or attitudes, but all of our one voices can.
Advocating is simply making a choice to make a difference and acting upon it. Take that small step to represent Missouri's children today.
